STAR OF THE WEEK!
This week's star is
Raymond Scott
10 September 1908 — 8 February 1994
Raymond Scott (born Harry Warnow) was a great 20th century composer. His most famous compositions, the intricate jazz-influenced songs, have been used in hundreds of cartoons. Contrary to common belief, the only music he wrote for any specific animation was several short electronic commercial cues. Scott worked for years as a musical director and band leader for CBS. After selling millions of records, Scott spent the second half of his life in relative obscurity, dedicating all his energy to electronic music, inventing some of the first synthesizers as well as a handful of other music-making contraptions, which would still be revolutionary if they worked today.
